Looking forward • Movement to New York State Common Core Standards • Movement to aspirational targets (75 on English Regents and 80 on Algebra Regents)
Increase 6-12 departmental focus • Benefit from knowledge and expertise of middle school teachers in addressing the Common Core shifts • Improve teacher awareness and knowledge of the essential skills needed for success across grade levels-more then vertical alignment of the content.
Shift in how we think & what we measure • How can we move Graduation rate to 90% range? • Think tank concept at MS/HS level
Common Core Implementation ELA • Summer work for 9th Grade Team • Ongoing curriculum alignment and revision • Development of lessons supporting shifts Algebra • Summer work for Algebra team • Ongoing curriculum alignment and revision • Common Core Aligned Algebra Regents exam administered in June
Integrated approach for ELA/SS • Common text taught across a grade level to coincide with instruction in Global History • Sharing of primary source documents for across curricular instruction • Application of consistent reading and writing strategies, i.e. close reading and detailed essay writing
Aspirational Targets 2010 Cohort at this time 43% College and Career readiness target • 72% have achieved the English target • 44% have achieved the Math target
