  1. Is Your Home an Easy Target for Burglars?

  2. Protecting yourself and your family isn’t quite as simple as locking all your doors and windows when you’re not at home; there are in fact, several things that you might be doing (or not doing) that can make your home an easy target for burglars: Having an active and open social media presence Unless you have strong privacy settings on your social media accounts, it’s possible for anyone and everyone to follow your posts and see what you plan to do, where you are and who you’re with. While for many this can be harmless, for others it can tell criminals when your home might be empty, or even tell them where you are if they were planning to stalk or attack you.

  3. Neglected yard While yard work might be tiresome, a neglected, dirty or overgrown yard can be a sign to burglars that nobody’s home, and even if this isn’t true, you wouldn’t want a burglar breaking into your home while you’re there. Your home is poorly illuminated A home shrouded in darkness is always going to be more of a target for criminals than one which is well illuminated, so if you don’t want to have lights on all the time during the hours of darkness, you should at least consider installing motions sensor lights at strategic positions around your home.

  4. You don’t always lock your doors and windows Unlocked doors and windows are an open invitation for burglars and intruders, and if they can easily get inside a property without having to smash glass or locks to get in, they will. While you might think that locking doors and windows is something all homeowners do, you’d be surprised how many don’t, and how many leave their homes vulnerable as a result. There’s no home security system Detecting motion, monitoring for breaking glass, and sounding alarms; home security systems are a valuable deterrent for crime, and even if your security system isn’t working, a broken or dummy system that’s clearly visible, may be enough alone to prevent a burglar from targeting your home.

  5. When combined with smart home technology, upgraded high security locks and motion sensor lights, a security system can give you and your home the added protection it needs. Just by taking a few simple steps, such as limiting social media posts that tell others of your whereabouts, keeping your yard tidy and making sure your locks are in full working order, you can make your home much less of an easy target for criminals. And for more tips and advice on securing your home, chat to your local, licensed locksmith.
