Classroom Standards Fall 2018. West Valley High School Biology Mr. Mata. Be on time every day!!! The school tardy policy will be enforced. Bring pencil, pen, paper, and your Interactive Notebook (INB) each day to class. No eating, drinking, gum allowed in class. Water bottles are allowed.

  2. Be on time every day!!! The school tardy policy will be enforced.

  3. Bring pencil, pen, paper, and your Interactive Notebook (INB) each day to class.

  4. No eating, drinking, gum allowed in class. Water bottles are allowed.

  5. Electronic Devices No cell phone are used in class.A separate cell phone contract will be in place this year. 1st offense = warning 2nd offense = period confiscation. 3rd offense = sent to office.Additional offenses = sent to office; conduct “U” for semester.

  6. Hats, bandanas, beanies must be removed when you enter class. (WVHS hats only)

  7. Profanity will not be tolerated.

  8. Dress CodeThe dress code policy is in effect. Why?

  9. School-wide triad restroom passes will be used.

  10. Bring/wear your student ID every day to school.

  11. Course syllabus, grading standards, restroom passes will be covered in detail, Monday, August 20th .

  12. Biology Success Strategies • Read assigned chapter sections twice a week. • Copy chapter section notes in INB week before.

  13. Biology Success Strategies • Do assigned HW a little each night….. Don’t wait until last minute!

  14. Biology Success Strategies • Consult other students for help…. This will help your understanding.

  15. Biology Success Strategies • Don’t miss class!!! We cover a significant amount of material each day and you will fall behind quickly if absent.

  16. Biology Success Strategies • Re-read the text several times when you run across a difficult concept.

  17. Biology Success Strategies • Review previously studied material often to reinforce those topics. • Review your INB weekly.

  18. Biology Success Strategies • Don’t give up!!! Learning is a difficult chore for most people. • Be persistent and you will have success!

  19. Biology Success Strategies • Consult with me if you are having difficulties; don’t wait and think “I will get this concept further down the road”.

  20. Biology Success Strategies • Spend a lot of time on definitions; problems are easier if you understand the meaning of terms first.

  21. Biology Success Strategies • Take good class notes. • We will be using Focus notes in your INB. • This helps your memory.

  22. Biology Success Strategies • Have confidence in yourself. • The person who believes they can and the person that believes they cannot, are both right!

  23. Biology Success Strategies • Lab activities reinforce concepts. • All weekly HW (chapter notes, SUTW, FNT, and lab write up in INB) must be complete to participate in lab. • Failure to complete all of these assignments will result in your doing an alternative lab with point penalty.

  24. Biology Success Strategies • Any tardy to class will forfeit weekly lab activity and you will have to complete an alternative lab activity (no point penalty if alternative lab is done completely and correctly). • Bring your Interactive Notebook (INB) with you every day of class!

  25. Biology Success Strategies • All progress reports (AVID, sports, weekly planner) must be submitted at the beginning of class (silver basket) and will be returned before the end of class (black basket). • No progress reports will be completed after class, during passing periods, or after school.
