Transformer oil is also known as insulating oil is oil that remains stable at high temperature. It has high electrical insulation property. It is liquid insulation in electrical power transformer. It also exhausts heat generated by transformer. We need to purify transformer oil because transformer life mainly depends on the volume of oil it contains. It performs other two important functions. Transformer oil helps to secure core and winding of transformer which is immersed in oil and it avoids direct contact of atmospheric oxygen with cellulose made paper insulation of winding. source: transformer oil
