What is a CRIS • A CRIS (Current Research Information System) is any information tool dedicated to provide access to and disseminate research information. • This includes People, Projects, Organisation, Results, Facilities and Equipments • CRIS ‘s may be organized thematically or along the lines or scientific disciplines, and may be regional, national or transnational Marga van Meel / euroCRIS

Directory of Research Information Systems • DRIS, an inventory of 107 CRIS’s worldwide • CRIS’s has been identified in all continents • Most of the systems have been set up to serve national needs • Four types of information systems can be distinguished, namely information on • research information • scientist • research programs and projects • research publications Marga van Meel / euroCRIS

Who are we • euroCRIS is a not-for-profit association an aims to be the internationally recognized point of reference for all matters relating to CRIS • euroCRIS is established to adress issues of CRIS worldwide, but with emphasis on Europe as continental entity • euroCRIS fosters the CERIF-format and CRIS Best Practices, organizes tutorials, courses and a biennial series of conferences Marga van Meel / euroCRIS

Historical information and plan for the future • A history over more then 12 years • Mr. Hauge (Norway) started in 1991 the European Conference Series on CRIS • The European Platform for Current Research Database producers was set up in 1995. The goal of the Platform was to provide an informal forum • In 2001 restructuring of euroCRIS took place into a formal professional organisation • euroCRIS has the ambition to play a leading role in the establishment and maintance of a future Integrated Information system (IIS-ERAWATCH) Marga van Meel / euroCRIS

  10. Taskgroup Best Practise • Prepares and maintains the euroCRIS Code of Good Practise • Develops a reference CERIF implementation • Prepares associated supporting documentation, courses etc. • Develops a reference database of CERIF-based CRIS implementations Marga van Meel / euroCRIS

Taskgroup CERIF • Develops the CERIF data model • Develops the CERIF ontology • Develops the CERIF database implementation (database schema) • Processes feedback about CERIF from the CRIS community (improving the CERIF-model) • Provides helpdesk functions about CERIF • Investigates new technologies (e.g. Semantic Web) and new areas (e.g. information integration) of CERIF use Marga van Meel / euroCRIS

Taskgroup Projects • Actively monitors funding opportunities • Coordinates the work of euroCRIS members for bids • When acting as subcontractor, represents euroCRIS in management meetings of consortia • Manages the project portfolio of euroCRIS • Develops an expertise file of the euroCRIS membership Marga van Meel / euroCRIS

Who are our members • euroCRIS members are representatives from (national) organisations dealing with content, technology and/or policy aspects of CRIS and thus may be regarded as national agencies • 43 members from 19 countries • Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Swiss, United Kingdom, USA.
