  4. PG Research Support Scheme (PRSS) • Grants between $200-$1200 • Conference expenses for presentation ($2000 for overseas conference) • Attend special facility, or field expenses • Specialist Books, Equipment • Up to 3 grants during PhD candidature • Administered by School/Dept • ~April onward

  5. ..keep an eye on the future • Build your ‘track record’… • Relative to opportunity • Contribution to the field • Achievements • Publications: quality and quantity • Prizes, awards, memberships, professional and/or community activities

  6. Career Opportunities • Research students: • Post doctoral fellowships and other positions in Australia and overseas • Academics positions • Coursework students: • Get involved in research projects • Consider research degrees to keep your options open

  7. Ethics approval • Complex process • Strict legislative requirements • Seek assistance very early to ensure timely approval: • Supervisor • Colleagues • Ethics Office staff and/or website

  8. Ethics Administration • Structural changes (human ethics): • Health and Medical as well as Humanities and Social Sciences expertise • Separate consideration of student protocols • Monthly meetings • Animal Welfare and Handling courses
