  1. Why do bad things happen? 1-24-10

  2. Why do bad things happen? • We live in a fallen world • So that God can get Glory • The consequences of sin is death • Motivation to draw closer to God

  3. We live in a fallen world • God declared that all His creation was good • Woman rebels against God, man follows along • Curses are established that affect man, woman, and the creation

  4. Evidence of the curses • Genesis 3:16 – Woman • Genesis 3:17-19 – Man • Romans 8:19-22 - Creation

  5. So that God would get glory • John 9:1-41 Man blind from birth • The disciples thought it was the result of sin • The blind man was just evidence of a fallen creation • God came to set them free • John 8:1-11 Woman caught in Adultery • Adultery is the result of some missing something • Jesus forgave and empowered

  6. Consequence for sin • King Saul did not follow God’s instruction and lost his kingdom (1 Sam 15) • King Saul went to a medium, sorcerer, to get answers instead of looking to God and lost his life (1 Sam 28) • Ananias and Sapphira lied about their generosity (Acts 5)

  7. Motivation to draw close • The Book Of Job • Begins with a very clear perspective (Job 1:21) • 3 “Friends” come with incorrect judgment about how righteous they are, and how he is not • Job responds proclaiming his righteousness (Job 32) • Elihu, humbles himself and sets things straight • God answers Job (Job 38) • Job repents, all is restored, and the first 3 are corrected

  8. So why do bad things happen? • In all things, God has a plan • If we submit to that plan, we learn, we grow, we are changed and transformed • If we rebel, run away, or make excuses, we will continue to wonder why • If we accept, if we embrace Him, and help others, instead of condemn, we will be part of His plan, and not working against it.
