    2. JOIN OR NOT? Sarkozy says: "Europe must give itself borders ... beginning with Turkey which has no place in the EU."

    3. Should Turkey join the European Union? Turkey became an official candidate to join the EU in 2005. It has a population of 71 million people, most of whom are Muslims. Do you think it should join the European Union, showing that a moderate Islamic country can integrate into the Western world? Or do you feel that it has no place in the EU, considering that its culture and society are so different from the rest of Europe?

    4. WHAT IS THE EU? AND WHAT IS ITS FUNCTION? The European Union isn't just about geography - it's about culture and lifestyle and human rights, and so on. There are several requirements necessary before any country can join.

    5. What does the EU do? A lot of what the EU does is about bringing people in Europe closer together. It tries to make it easier for Europeans to buy and sell things to each other. This is done by changing the rules that control trade. It is also getting rid of controls that stop people from EU countries moving around freely inside the Union. The changes have not always been popular in the UK. The EU backs things like exchange visits that help ordinary Europeans to understand what they all have in common.
