PATS Revisions for 2013-2014

The PATS (Peer Advisory and Tutoring Support) program has been revised for the 2013-2014 school year to ensure consistency and support for all students. Teachers will maintain the same advisory group for four years, facilitating strong relationships. Advisory meetings will occur every third, sixth, and tenth week of a nine-week period, focusing on progress reporting and attendance. New students will be assigned an advisor upon school commencement. A trial run is scheduled for September 6th, with necessary preparations to assess folder requirements.

  1. PATS Revisions for 2013-2014 • Due to many new teachers. All teachers will keep a group for 4 years rather than rotate after freshman year. • Academy members will exchange folders with advisees. • PATS will be held every third and sixth and tenth week of a nineweek period. You will advise only half of the group. • PATS will be used for grade conferencing – progress reports and report cards(attendance and grades). A referral form for problem students is to be used. Submit forms to the counselor. • Parent contacts will consist of 3 – beginning, middle and end.

  2. PATS Revisions Continued • All new students will be placed by the counselor with an advisor once school starts. • A trial run of PATS will occur the FridaySeptember 6th. At this time, please assess your folder needs. New advisors have students complete a demographic profile. • Folder paperwork has been revised to one sheet where you will check off when you conference and when you make parent contact. (Document your contacts with students and parents. )

  5. TIPS ON REPORT CARD CONFERENCING! Find something positive first. Notice low or declining grades. Ask why there was a decline in grades. Monitor attendance (especially students have U’s) Have students set a goal for next time you meet. Students like smiley faces and praise – they go a long to CONENCTING with a student.
