  1. Bohr-Rutherford Diagrams

  2. For each of the first 20 elements, you will be making a Bohr-Rutherford Card • Ex. 19 F 9 9p+ 10 n Fluorine

  3. Once you have finished all 20 cards, you need to colour code each element based on their number of valence electrons. Valence electrons are the number of electrons in the outermost shells • If the element has ___ valence electrons: • 1 – red • 2 – orange • 3 – yellow • 4 – green • 5 – dark blue • 6 – purple • 7 – pink • 8 – light blue

  4. On the back of each of your Bohr-Rutherford cards, draw in the Lewis-Dot diagram.

  5. Once the cards are coloured, arrange them according to how you think they should be ordered.

  6. Questions • What do you notice about how you arranged your cards compared to the periodic table? • How does the periodic table arrange elements according to columns? (What is similar about the elements in each column?) • What is common among all elements in the same row in the periodic table? What does the row tell you about an element? • Even though Hydrogen is a gas, it is placed in the furthermost column, why?
