  2. Disk Attachment • Disk Attachment Computers access disk storage in two ways: 1) Host attached via an I/O port 2) Network attached via a network connection

  3. Disk Attachment Network-attached storage (NAS) It is a device which has a special purpose storage system that is access remotely over a data network (LAN) . rather Than over a local connection (such as a bus) -> Remotely attaching to file systems

  4. Disk Attachment Network-attached storage (NAS) Consist of : 1- Processor 2- memory 3- USB port 4- do not have a keyboard or display

  5. Disk Attachment Local network

  6. Disk Attachment NAS :

  7. Disk Attachment Network-attached storage (NAS) NAS protocols : • They typically provide access to files using network file • sharing protocols such as NFS, SMB/CIFS, or AFP. • NFS and CIFS are common protocols • NFS(network file system) for UNIX system • CIFS (common internet file system) for windows system • This two protocols is type of : Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

  8. Disk Attachment • Network-attached storage (NAS) • NAS connections (wire) : NAS connect to network via internet such as TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol)

  9. Disk Attachment Characterize: • NAS not provide just storage data but backing up and sharing files across your network. • NAS as a convenient and easy method of sharing files among multiple pc’s computers • NAS allows greater sharing of information especially between different operating systems such as Unix and Mac • Advantages : faster data access , easier control, and simple implementation

  10. Disk Attachment Characterize: • NAS systems contain one or more hard disks, often arranged into logical, redundant storage containers or RAID arrays. • NAS provides both storage and a file system .File System managed by NAS • NAS is easier to do than other storage access method like a Storage area network.
