Ms. Tran’s 1st Grade News http://teacherweb.com/CA/Booksin/MsTran/apt1.aspx November 7, 2013 ELA News • The spelling words for next week will include triple clusters such as scrub, splat and strum and high frequency words had, did, and get.  • Next week, the students will ask and answer questions to help determine or clarify the meaning of words and phrases in a text. • Students will write narratives in which they tell about two or more sequenced events, include some details regarding what happened, use words such as first, then,  and next to signal event order, and provide some sense of closure. • Students will start to write addition and subtraction equations.  They will apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. For example, if 8+3 =11 is known, then 3+8=11 is also known. They will learn the relationship between addition and subtraction equations. We will be working on fluency for addition and subtraction within 10.
