  3. Bioprosthesis • Tissue valves have been used for 25 to 30 years • Central blood flow • Low Profile for easy fitting in aortic, mitral & tricuspid • Continuous coumadin anticoagulation not needed

  4. Causes of Prosthetic Valve Malfunction • Mechanical Valves are thrombogenic & requires long-term anticoagulation • Thrombosis causes restriction of the disk movement • Stenosis & regurgitation will occur • Infection • Wearing out • Leaks • Jamming • Sticking • Biprosthetic Degeneration
