  1. Initial Activity: Pick which photo you think best represents science? Why?

  2. Take 5 minutes to write what you think the definition of science is in your notebook/binder. Think about what a scientist does, what we might study in class, and what science means to you. What does the term Science mean to you?

  3. Definition of Science • An organized way of to learn about the natural world. • The body of knowledge that scientists have built up after years of testing proposed explanations.

  4. Goals of Science • Investigate and understand the world around you • Explain events in nature • Make predictions • Never stop questioning

  5. Questions/Problems Science Can’t Answer ETHICS – deals with moral values about what is good or bad. BELIEF SYSTEMS – deal with religious and/or other belief systems
