  2. Princess of Hill stations Fondly called the “Princess of Hill stations”, Kodaikanal is one of the most enticing hill stations on the Western Ghats. The name Kodaikanal attributes to the meaning “Gift of the Forest”, and truly this magical place is a gift to the region. Filled with aromatic deciduous trees of eucalyptus and pears and fields of tea plantations this hilly region is a sight to behold. Kodaikanal was established in 1845 as a summer bode for the missionaries who wanted to escape the tropical climate shift. For the same reason Kodai attracted a diverse populace from all around the neighboring region, giving rise to a full formed township.

  3. Paliyar Tribe The Paliyar tribe, a nomadic group of aboriginals who indulge in collecting wild honey, also call Kodai home. Further the beauty of Kodaikanal plays a vital role in ancient Sangam literature. The rare Kurinji flower which blossoms once in every 12 years is also an exquisite attraction of Kodaikanal hills.

  4. The pristine hills The pristine hills of Kodaikanal attract more than 3.2 Million visitors every year. Apart from the picturesque hill side, the tranquil waters of the Kodai lake is a favored spot for a breathtaking boat ride around the clear waters, showcasing the dense forest lines and vibrant flowers in bloom in and around the shores.

  5. Blessed with a number of waterfalls and caves that adds to the flora and fauna of the region, some of the prominent tourist attractions include Bryant’s Park established in 1980, is a must see botanical park layered with a rainbow of colorful blossoms, both natives and hybrids of the region.

  6. Coaker’s walk Coaker’s walk is a small pathway lining the lake which gives a magnificent view of the entire expanse. The Bear Shola falls is one of the many in the region which caters to tourists looking for a chilly dip in its white waters. The Green Valley view shows all of a 5000ft drop in the valley, which is as beautiful as it is breathtaking to viewers. The Pillar rocks are another natural wonder unique to Kodaikanal offering a panoramic view of the entire valley. The Dolphin nose is another natural attraction at Kodai, where the rock formation depicts its name-sake and at the same time offers an extraordinary view of the surroundings.

  7. Pine forest The Pine forest with its inviting aroma and magniloquent pine trees offers a scenic view similar to a dream, which for the same has been featured in a number of movies from around. The Guna Caves also known as Devil’s Kitchen is a natural cave formation which offers a surreal view when there is a mixture of mist and sunlight, the play of echo mixed with the chill of the ancient rocks is an experience one doesn’t easily forget. A union with nature, a sight etched in ancient stone, a serene experience with nature is what Berijam Lake offers its visitors, with the aid of a special forest permission due to the limitation of visitors into this conserved expanse, you can experience in full one of Kodaikanal many calls with nature.

  8. Christ the King church Apart from all the natural scenery Kodaikanal is also home to a number of magnificent churches and renowned shrines. Christ the King church or Union church as it is sometimes called is a well preserved church dating to the colonial era, complete with woodwork and stained glass windows, this church will transform you back in time. The Kurinji Andavar Murugan temple was built in 1936 by a European convert Lady Leelavathi; it is adorned with intricate architecture devoted to its deity Lord Muruga. In addition to all its abundant tourist locations Kodai is also famous for its souvenirs in wool, handicrafts, natural medicinal oils, fresh fruits and homemade chocolates.

Hotels and Resorts It has about 50 hotels and resorts catering to tourist needs, Green Acres Resort is one among them with highly accredited amenities and located in close proximity to most of the tourist destinations. Other than this Kodai is dotted with a number of multi-cuisine restaurants catering to native and international food. The closest airport is the Madurai international airport, followed by the Coimbatore international airport; the closest railway line is the Palani station, but the final stretch to Kodaikanal can only be reached by road.
