- History of the Atom - Timeline. By: Stephen Wajda. Democritus – 460 BC. Democritus was an Ancient Greek scientist and philosopher. He came up with and fathered the atomic theory. It stated that “ everything is made up of and compromised of atoms”. This was a huge advancement in this field.

  3. Dalton - 1803 Dalton was a English physicist, chemist as well as a meteorologist . His work manly revolved around the atomic theory, as that is what he is best known for.   4. Mendeleev - 1869 Mendeleev was a Russian Chemist who is know and accredited with the creation of the first Periodic Table. His table contained elements that were not even discovered yet.   5. Eugene Goldstein - 1885 Eugene Goldstein was a German physicist. He was one of the first to research the discharge tube. He also invented the anode ray.   7. J.J. Thomson - 1897 J.J. Thomson was a British Physicist. He is credited with the discovery of the electron and the isotope. He also invented the Mass Spectrometer. In his later years he also became a Noble Prize winner. http://www.nndb.com/people/479/000099182/

  8. Ernest Rutherford - 1907 Ernest was a British chemist who made himself known as the father of nuclear physics.   9. Robert Millikan - 1910 Robert was an American experimental Physicist. He discovered and determined the measurement of the charge of an electron. He is also greatly known for his work on the Photoelectric effect. http://www.manhattanrarebooks.com/millikan.htm

  11. Neils Bohr - 1913 Neil was a Danish physicist. He contributed immensely to the understanding of atomic structure and quantum mechanics. Also like many others, he too was a Nobel Prize winner. http://www.freeinfosociety.com/article.php?id=95
