  1. Human Subjects Training Requirements • All researchers, advisors, and research assistants must complete training. • You must have an overall passing rate of 85%. • You cannot take refresher courses if you do not have the basic certification on file with the IRB.

  2. Meeting A&T Human Subjects Training Requirements using the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative(CITI) website at www.citiprogram.org • Questions: • How do I register with CITI so I can meet IRB training requirements for human subjects protection? Go to Slide 5. • What are my options once I reach the Learner's Menu? Go to Slide 11. • What if I forgot my username or password? Go to Slide 4. • What should I do if I move or want to establish a new affiliation with another institution? Go to Slide 10. • How do I generate and submit a quiz? Go to Slides 14 and 15.

  3. How do I register with the CITI software so I can meet NC A&T IRB training requirements? • If you have not yet created a username and password to use the CITI site, go to Slide 5 now. • If you have already registered with CITI in the last 3 years, go to Slide 4.

  4. Entering the site with an existing username and password If you have registered with CITI in the last 3 years, you can continue to use that username and password. Just enter them on the home page (purplearrows below), then click “submit” and follow the prompts. You will then be taken to the Learner's Menu. Note: If you created a username and password but have forgotten them, click on the “Forgot username or password” link to the left (brown arrow below) and follow the prompts. If that approach is unsuccessful, call IRB administrator Catherine Collins, 336 285-2961, or the CITI help desk, 305 243-7970.

  5. Creating a Username and Password to Enter the CITI Site the First Time Step 1 To obtain access to the CITI site the first time, click on the NC A&T link for training. When the CITI site comes up, click, “Register for the CITI Course” link.

  6. Step 2 Next, click on the down arrow in Section 1 and scroll down until you find N.C. A&T and then click on it. Enter username, password, and email information in Sections 2 through 4. You do not have to enter a secondary password. Click on the blue “Submit” button at the bottom of the page.

  7. Step 3 Next, complete the fields requested on the member information screen and then click “Submit” to move to the next screen.

  8. Step 4 Question 1: Select “Social Behavioral Research Investigators and Key Personnel.” Question 2: Select “N/A” when answering whether you have taken the basic course. Select “Social Behavioral Research Investigators and Key Personnel.” Select “N/A.”

  9. Step 4 (Continued) Question 3:Skip “Good Clinical Practice (GCP)” Question 4: Select “Not at this time” for the Responsible Conduct of Research heading. Question 5:Skip the selections for animal testing. Next, go to the bottom of the page and click “Submit.” Skip Question 3. Note: Persons working on projects funded by NSF or NIH are required to complete RCR and Human Subjects modules. Select “Not at this time.” Skip selections for animal testing.

  10. Step 5 On the next page, you have the option to affiliate with other institutions. This is useful if you are required to provide training documentation for other institutions. You can select “no” to move on. However, you may return to the site and affiliate with another institution at any time.

  11. Step 6 Next, your learner’s menu will appear. You may start your modules by entering under the “status” section and clicking “Not Started – Enter.” You may also add or delete affiliation with institutions that use CITI, access a list of your completed modules, and print your completion report from this page. Module List for Basic Social Behavioral Researcher Courses If the screen to the left does not appear, you may have chosen the wrong learner group or indicated that you have taken the courses before, which prompts CITI to generate refresher modules. Go back to the learner menu and select “Add a course or update your learner groups.” Follow the instructions starting on Slide 8. You can also contact the Office of Research Compliance and Ethics at 336 285-2961 for assistance. See the next slide for which modules to complete.

  13. Correct Modules to Complete Complete all of the Required Modules. Choose two of the Elective Modules. The Optional Modules are not required.

  14. Taking the Quizzes For each module, the link to take the quiz is located at the bottom of the page.

  15. Generate the Quiz Click the link to generate the quiz. Select your answers and click “Submit” or click the “back” button to return to the reading material. You may also print the quiz for reference.
