  2. What is Modern Art? • most broad and complex period of art history • it was within 110 years that movements from Realism, Impressionism, to Abstract Expressionism, and many others were introduced around the world

  3. History • 19th century: the western world • MODERNISM: revolution in thought, technology, and society • Artist reflected changes by: • Exploring different materials and techniques • Creating new styles (MODERN ART)
