  2. Types of Prisms • A prism is a polyhedron with two congruent, parallel faces, called bases and the other two faces are called lateral faces. • Right prism: rectangles as lateral faces and the lateral edge is the altitude. • Oblique prism: some or all of the lateral face are nonrectangular.

  3. Types of Cylinders • A cylinder is a solid that has two congruent parallel bases that are circles. • Right cylinder: the segment joining the centers of the bases is an altitude. • Oblique cylinder: the segment joining the centers is not perpendicular to the planes containing the bases.

  4. Lateral and Surface Area of Prisms and Cylinders Prisms • L.A. = ph p= perimeter of bases h= height of prism • S.A. = L.A. + 2B B= area of base Cylinders • L.A.=2πr • h or πdh • S.A. = L.A. + 2B or 2πrh + 2πr²
