  1. UROLOGY TREATMENT - KIDNEY STONE AND PROSTATE CANCER

  2. WHAT IS UROLOGY? • Urology is a part of health care that deals with diseases of the male and female urinary tract (kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra). It also deals with the male organs that are able to make babies (penis, testes, scrotum, prostate, etc.). Since health problems in these body parts can happen to everyone, urologic health is important • Urology is known as a surgical specialty. Besides surgery, a urologist is a doctor with wisdom of internal medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology and other parts of health care. This is because a urologist encounters a wide range of clinical problems.

  3. The Scope Of Urology • Paediatric Urology (children's urology) • Urologic Oncology (urologic cancers) • Renal (kidney) Transplant • Male Infertility • Calculi (urinary tract stones) • Female Urology • Neurourology (nervous system control of genitourinary organs)

  4. Kidney Stones:Causes • You have had kidney stones before. • Someone in your family has had kidney stones. • You don’t drink enough water. • You follow a diet high in protein, sodium and/or sugar. • You are overweight or obese. • You have had gastric bypass surgery or another intestinal surgery. • You have polycystic kidney disease or another cystic kidney disease. • You have a certain condition that causes your urine to contain high levels of cystine, oxalate, uric acid or calcium. • You have a condition that causes swelling or irritation in your bowel or your joints. • You take certain medicines, such as diuretics (water pills) or calcium-based antacids.

  5. Kidney Stones: Symptoms If you have a larger kidney stone, you may notice any of the following symptoms: • Pain while urinating • Blood in your urine • Sharp pain in your back or lower abdomen • Nausea and vomiting

  6. Kidney Stones: Treatments The treatment for a kidney stone depends on the size of the stone • Medication • Shock wave Lithotripsy • Ureteroscopy • In rare cases - percutaneous nephrolithotomy

  7. Prostate Cancer- Symptoms and Causes • Prostate cancer is cancer that occurs in the prostate - a small walnut-shaped gland in men that produces the seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm. • Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men. Usually prostate cancer grows slowly and is initially confined to the prostate gland, where it may not cause serious harm. However, while some types of prostate cancer grow slowly and may need minimal or even no treatment, other types are aggressive and can spread quickly. • Prostate cancer that's detected early — when it's still confined to the prostate gland — has a better chance of successful treatment.

  8. Prostate Cancer - Symptoms Prostate cancer may cause no signs or symptoms in its early stages. Prostate cancer that's more advanced may cause signs and symptoms such as: • Trouble urinating • Decreased force in the stream of urine • Blood in semen • Discomfort in the pelvic area • Bone pain • Erectile dysfunction

  9. Prostate Cancer - Causes • It's not clear what causes prostate cancer. • We know that prostate cancer begins when some cells in your prostate become abnormal. Mutations in the abnormal cells' DNA cause the cells to grow and divide more rapidly than normal cells do. The abnormal cells continue living, when other cells would die. • The accumulating abnormal cells form a tumour that can grow to invade nearby tissue. Some abnormal cells can also break off and spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body.
