West Virginia Community Development Hub • The “HUB”: • Was formed in 2008 with the merger of Community Development Partnership and Community Collaborative, Inc. • Promotes and helps build an aligned system of community development for communities and providers. • Believes that the work of WV nonprofits is essential for community development. • Supports nonprofit capacity building as a way to strengthen community development.

Standards for Excellence • A model for nonprofit organizations to implement ethical and accountable practices • A framework with a clear statement of the organization’s commitment to best practices • A self-regulatory tool to ensure public confidence and public support • A demonstration of the organization's commitment to public service

  4. Standards for ExcellenceHistory • 1998: Maryland Association of Nonprofits Launched its own Standards Program • 2001: Began replicating the project nationally • 2004: Launch of the Standards for Excellence Institute • 2005: Launch of National Standards certification program

Standards for Excellence in West Virginia • The Hub is the only licensed Standards for Excellence provider in West Virginia. • The Hub provides the Standards for Excellence program though the Clinic Series Training • Standards for Excellence Institute provides a certification process for organizations that meet the standards.

  6. Standards for Excellence Clinic Series • Consists of two one day sessions a week apart. • Covers all eight guiding principles of the Standards Code. • Facilitated interaction follows each topic. • Includes extensive materials and examples to help your organization meet the Standards. • Each organization may have two people at each session.

  7. Standards for Excellence Institute Certification Program • Application process – a learning process in itself • Staff assisted Peer Review Process • Certification good for three years • Approved organizations licensed to display the Standards for Excellence seal

  8. How do organizations earn the Seal? Phase I Phase II Phase III Undergo 2nd review by Peer Reviewers Have the Standards been met? Submit application to SFXI Is the application complete? Undergo 3rd review by Ethics Standards Committee Should this organization be approved?
