Diesel Fuel Most diesel fuels manufactured in the United States, Canada, and the European Union have adequate lubricity to ensure proper operation and durability of fuel injection system components. However, diesel fuels manufactured in some areas of the world may lack the necessary lubricity. IMPORTANT: Make sure the diesel fuel used in your machine demonstrates good lubricity If fuel of low or unknown lubricity is used, add John Deere PREMIUM DIESEL FUEL CONDITIONER (or equivalent) at the specified concentration.   23. Diesel Fuel • ASTM American society for testing and materials. Diesel Fuel standards are found in ASTM-975 • Sulfur when oxidized during combustion, forms sulfur dioxide and sulfur trioxide which when combined with water A natural byproduct of combustion creates sulfuric acid • Cetane Number is a measure of ignition quality, Higher numbers are better. Cetane number 45 is recommended - Cetane number 50 in climates below -4oF (-20oC) or elevations above 5,000 ft. (1,500m) • Viscosity is a measurement resistance to flow. #2 Diesel has a higher viscosity rating than #1 diesel • Cloud Point is the point that wax in fuel begins to crystallize and give a cloudy appepearance • Cold Filter Plug Point (CFPP) is the temperature fuel becomes restricted in filters • The way to calculate the limiting operational temperature is to look at both the Cloud Point and the Cold Filter Plug Point Values. • Example: Cloud Point = 14oF and the Cold Filter Plug Point = -30oF • Lubricity is the measure of friction in a fluid. It is a myth that sulfur is the primary lubricating component in Diesel Fuel.

  28. Engine Oils Lubrication oils comply with the specifications listed in the Operator's Manual. 2. Engine oil level is maintained at the proper level in the oil pan. 3. Proper oil filtration is maintained. 4. The engine maintains a stable lube oil pressure and temperature during all operating conditions. 5. The engine is installed to provide access for regularly scheduled maintenance.

  29. Diesel Engine Break-In Oil New engines are filled at the factory with John Deere ENGINE BREAK-IN PLUS OIL. During the break-in period, add John Deere ENGINE BREAK-IN PLUS OIL as needed to maintain the specified oil level. BREAK IN PLUS OIL is used in new, Rebuilt or Remanufactured John Deere engines regardless of Tier Change the oil and filter between the first 100 hours of operation and the maximum service interval is the same as the service interval recommendations or PLUS-50 II but not over 500 hours on a new or rebuilt engine. (Always follow Operator Manual) BREAK-IN PLUS II Oil 10W-30 API CJ-4 TY2661 = 1 Gallon TY2663 = 5 Gallon Operate the engine under various conditions, particularly heavy loads with minimal idling, to help seat engine components properly.
