  1. Chapter 9 Rizal’s Grand Tour of Europe with Viola • May 11, 1887 - the tour begins. Left Berlin by train • Potsdam • Dresden - one of the best cities in Germany - Visited Dr. Adolph Meyer - Impressed by the “Prometheus Bound” - Met Dr. Jagor, during the floral exposition.

Teschen (Decin, Czechoslovakia) - next stop over and Rizal sent a wire to Blumentritt. • Leitmeritz (May 13, 1887) 4 days - Rizal and Viola arrived at the station, Blumentritt was carrying a sketch pencil of Rizal - Registered at Hotel Krebs - Rosa the wife of Professor with Conrad and Fritz - Had an encounter with the “burgomaster”

  6. - Tourist’s club of Leitmeritz - Painted the family of Blumentritt - Dr. Carlos Czepelak – scientist,Polish scholar - Prof. Robert Klutschak – eminent naturalist • Prague - Dr. Willkomm – Prof of Natural history in the Univ. of Prague. - visited the tomb of Copernicus- famous astronomer, famous cave where San Juan Nepomuceno was imprisoned.

  7. Brunn - nothing of importance happened in this city • Vienna - fascinated by its beautiful buildings, rel. images, haunting waltzes, majestic charm - Norfenfals – Europe’s greatest novelist “ whose genius he so much admired” - Masner and Nordman – Austrian scholars - Stayed in Hotel Metropole

  16. Rizal resents the Exhibitions of Igorots in 1887 - El Liberal (inhuman treatment) - El Resumen (anti Filipino newspaper) • Italy ( Turin, Milan, Venice, France) - June 27, 1887 “Eternal City/ City of the Caesars”

  17. Vatican City - June 29th Feast day of St. Peter & Paul - City of the Popes”- capital of Christendom
