( Carol & Melvin Ember, 1973). • the study of humankind, including the comparative study of societies and cultures and the science of human zoology and evolution. (Oxford Dictionary, 10th Edition) Ruang lingkup: Mempelajari manusia baik dari aspek fisik maupun budayanya, di manapun dan zaman kapanpun.

L. culturare, both based on L. colere (see cultivate). • Kebudayaan menurut antropologi adalah: Seluruh sistem gagasan dan rasa, tindakan, serta karya yang dihasilkan manusia dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat, yang dijadikan miliknya dengan belajar (bukan naluri, refleks, fisiologi, dan membabi-buta).
