  6. Areas of Emphasis for Friday, February 22, p.1 COACH ACCESS TO COURSE AND START/FINISH • Thank you all for excellent cooperation on the course. The Jury was very pleased with the coaches’ conduct. • Start-Finish bibs give coaches access to the post-finish area. Coaches can come into the finish area to assist a skier in distress, but should stay in the post-finish area unless called into the finish. You can cheer and take photos from the post-finish area. • Reminder that coaches with green bibs are not permitted to be on skis on the course during the competition. Pacing is also prohibited.

  7. Areas of Emphasis for Friday, February 22, p.2 SKIER ACCESS TO START/EGRESS FROM FINISH • Skiers must access the start by passing behind the timing building and crossing the start mesa. • Skiers will have their bib numbers checked as they leave the start mesa for the start tracks on the E side of the stadium. • Skiers will be provided with clothing bags with each bib. They should carry the bags to the start, put their warmup clothes in the bag, and leave the bag in one of the large black sleds provided at the start • Skiers’ clothing will be transported from the start grid back to the post-finish area on the start mesa where they can retrieve it immediately after the finish. • Coaches or parents who want to hold their skiers’ clothing will not be admitted to the post-finish area. So let the athletes take care of their own clothing with bags. • Skiers must depart after finishing by passing behind/West of the timing building

  8. Areas of Emphasis for Friday, February 22, p.3 SWOON PATROL • Please talk to your skiers about what they do after they cross the finish line. Tell them they are perfectly capable of skiing 10m-15m past the finish line before they fall down in a heap. Last year there were times during the girls race when it would have been impossible for the next skier to finish because the full width of the finish line was occupied by horizontal bodies. • Such behavior is unnecessary and is extremely inconsiderate of later finishers. • We will have personnel standing just past the finish line telling the skiers to continue skiing past them. This strategy has been successful at USSA SRNC in preventing a heap of bodies from collecting in such a way as to prevent competitors crossing the finish line.

  9. Areas of Emphasis for Friday, February 22, p.4 YIELDING TRACK IN A MASS START EVENT/OBSTRUCTION • Skiers are not obligated to yield track in a mass-start event. • A skier who wants to pass should plan to go around the skier being overtaken • Responsibility for a clean pass lies with the overtaking skier • The overtaking skier’s tails must be clear of the overtaken skier’s tips before moving in front of the skier being overtaken

  10. Areas of Emphasis for Friday, February 22, p.5 RELAY ENTRIES / RELAY PROCEDURES • Due at the beginning of the Friday Team Captains’ Meeting at WVHS • Submit entries to the Chief of Secretariat or Asst TD at the start of the meeting • Only skiers who have been entered in the first two competitions may be on relay teams – no new substitutes per ASAA Rules • Changes in relay team running order and/or personnel are permitted up to one hour prior to the start of the race (10AM for girls 4x3Km, Noon for boys 4x5Km) • Any changes to the running order or personnel must be presented to the Chief of Secretariat IN WRITING at Rikke’s Roadhouse/Competition Office not less than one hour prior to the start • Order of bibs is Red-Green-Yellow-Blue. Only skiers with the correct color of bib will be admitted to the start area and to the relay exchange areas
