The Space Explorers project at Priory School enables and empowers Key Stage 3 students (ages 11-14) to build their confidence in expressing thoughts and suggestions regarding the use of school spaces. Utilizing student voice, pupils explore local environments, co-construct curricula, and actively participate in projects that instigate change. They interact with digital tools like SurveyMonkey and AutoCollage to evaluate their progress and understand geographical patterns. This initiative fosters student collaboration, lasting impact on school space utilization, and enhances personal learning and thinking skills.

Project Overview Learning Areas Geography, ICT, Citizenship, Student Voice, Personal Learning & Thinking Skills Levels Key Stage 3, 11-14 - To enable and empower young people at Priory School by developing their confidence when communicating their thoughts, feelings and suggestions about how the school’s spaces should be used. - To employ student voice/ student to explore local spaces, investigate the environment + have an input in how these spaces are used. - To co-construct a Year 7 scheme of work exploring Our Place. Objectives Description Out-of-classroom learning and technology were used to explore pupils’ thoughts and feeling about the school’s spaces. Student voice was used to plan, lead and deliver the project and SurveyMonkey measured the progression of student confidence. AutoCollage was used to explore geographical patterns in the visual data collected. Pupils worked together to investigate spaces & communicate their findings to the Headteacher, Governors, local council & and built environment professionals. They co-constructed a scheme of work which they then shared with Year 7 so the project has longevity + lasting impact.
