  2. Goals of the Presentation • Compare/Contrast Online Education/Classes between the United States and China • Compare/Contrast Online Education/Classes between Georgia and Florida • Focus on accreditations, costs, effectiveness

  3. United States • Over 6 million Americans were enrolling in at least one or more online classes in 2010 • The price range for online education can be anywhere from $400 to $1,500 a course depending on the school • The degrees that can be earned through online education range from Technical, Associates, Bachelors, Masters, and more recently high school programs have been added • It is becoming more and more practical for people to enroll in online classes to work on their degrees

  4. China • China has become a hotspot for big time investors to invest in education due to a rise in thenumber of people enrolling for online courses in China • The growth of online education has increased 20.7% since2006 -2007 • Many reasons online educations have become so popular is due to expansive and rural geography, less competition to get into schools, and new government incentives to ensure compulsory learning for everyone

  5. Georgia • The University System of Georgia provides online education through the Georgia ONmyLINEprogram • The program is offered through select institutions in Georgia • All University System of Georgia institutions listed on Georgia ONmyLINE are AACSB accredited and offer quality courses that prepare one for a career just as effectively as a traditional program • Costs are determined per credit hour along with fees established by the selected institutions • The Georgia Department of Education has also introduced aprogram called Georgia Virtual School that allows K-12 students the chance to take classes online; This program is in its early stages

  6. Florida • Unlike Georgia, Florida does not have a state wide program that links all the college level institutions together • Online college degrees in Florida have to be accessed through specific institutions who offer particular programs or for profit online institutions • Since each institution sets up its own program tuition and fees are determined by each individual institution • The Florida Department of Education also has incorporated the virtual school idea for students K-12. Courses are accredited and teachers are available for contact 7 days a week 8 am to 8 pm; this program is also in its early stages

  7. Conclusion • Online educations and degrees are becoming more and more acceptable • Programs differ by region and provide flexibility to best fit one’s needs and circumstances • When seeking out an online program one should compare costs and effectiveness, along with making sure the institution selected has appropriate accreditation
