  3. North Solihull Barriers to employment • Lack of qualifications, transport and accessibility have been identified as the main reasons for the high numbers of unemployed in North Solihull (EDAW 2004) • Underlying issues of Housing, Health and childcare provision • 3 wards with consistent issues

  4. Lone Parents Multi agency programmes addressing all barriers (skills, aspirations, confidence, apathy, travel, finance) Affordable childcare provision Support accessing voluntary work Improved access and support into part/full time courses (incl. taster courses and modular courses).

  5. Lone Parents (2) • Work focussed educational opportunities. • Greater awareness of local support and initiatives. • Better links between Adult and Further Education • Awareness of local support groups.

  6. IB Claimants • Appropriate support into volunteering/employment • Greater community awareness of networks /support programmes. • Additional employer liaison advisers • Better availability and opportunity to participate in work placements • Links from adult learning to employment opportunities
