ESS261, Homework #2 • For an event and spacecraft of your interest, in the magnetosphere: • Obtain satellite position data in GEI coordinates for a specific time (one point) • Transform into GSE, GSM, SM and GEO, using your routines (show your code) • Compare your results with SPDF on-line real time runs for the same position/time • http://scweb.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/sscweb/CoordCalculator.cgi • Obtain magnetic field data from that satellite (one point) • Transform into GSM, GSE, SM coordinates (show your code) • Compare your results with CCMC runs • http://scweb.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/sscweb/CoordCalculator.cgi • Obtain IGRF, T89 and T96 values of the field for the above time • Use CCMC on-line run, your own code, or THEMIS code • Tabulate your models and compare with real data for the same time • Obtain the MLAT/MLON of the satellite at that time • Find the ionospheric footpoint (North and South) using IGRF and T89 • Find the equatorial projection using T89 • Reproduce plots on page #39 and #40 for your event. I.e., • Show the satellite XY projection in the context of magnetospheric field • Show the satellite XZ projection in the context of the magnetospheric field
