  28. Applying for Admission When to apply? Why apply early? Priority in opportunities such as: Housing Scholarships Registration for classes • You can start applying as early as you finish your junior year!

  29. Requirements for Admission What do you need to submit for admission? • High school transcripts * • ACT/SAT test scores * • Application fee * • Essay • Letters of recommendation

  30. Admission Requirements • Each school varies, so check with your choice of college to verify requirements • Missouri State • Top 3 requirements: • Top 25 % of class • 3.5/4.0 GPA • ACT 24 or higher • Sliding scale

  31. Letters of Recommendation • No family. • Give teachers/counselors 2-3 weeks notice. • Make sure they know the deadline. • Ask if they’d like additional information. • Let them know if you need more than one. • Don’t forget to thank them.

What did you learn? • Be sure to know what classes you need to graduate and to meet CORE • Take ACT early and PRACTICE • Make your list so you can start research for college • Visit college campuses as early as possible • Be well aware of admission requirements for your choice of colleges • Become familiar with Scholarships and Financial Aid. • Include someone you trust in your research process (mentor, parent, high school counselor etc…) • If you can take advanced classes take them

  35. Priscilla’s Words of Wisdom • Get to know your high school counselor • Visit with Admission Counselors that come to your school. • Attend college fairs. • Narrow down choices to top 3-5 colleges.

Priscilla’s Words of Wisdom • Apply for admission EARLY! • Have all applications out by the end of October. • Be actively engaged in the college search process. • Don’t chose a college solely based on where your friends are going. • Begin discussions on the costs of college / budgeting with someone you trust

Advice for Students • Learn to manage your time. • Learn to save and budget money. • Build your study habits now. • Challenge yourself in your classes • Ask the questions students don’t think to ask. • Have fun in high school, but your junior year will be critical to get ready for college • Develop strong listening and note-taking skills
