What is TeenMediaSC: • What it includes: • Filmmaking training prior to CSLP and TMSC deadlines • Editing of films at the training day • Filmmaking and editing equipment available for checkout • Other film topics welcome at the TeenMediaSC viewing • Viewing of SC Teen Videos during StoryFestSC • TeenMediaSC is a Film Festival for public library teen groups • It involves trainings for our teens and our public library staff on using equipment, editing film, editing audio, storyboarding, and more. • It will end with a viewing of all submitted videos • It will give opportunity for the voices and creativity of South Carolina’s amazing libraries and teens to be seen and heard.

  8. Why not PSAs The simplified version of Public Service Announcements are: • messages in the public interest • disseminated by the media without charge • with the objective of raising awareness • changing public attitudes and behavior towards a social issue

  9. But wait… My version of the golden rule: Give unto others as you would have them give unto you. Give your time, talent, money, ideas, love, kindness, generosity, skills, space, etc… Allow teens the opportunities to showcase themselves and the library. PSAs by teens about Library services and user groups Shows teens care Helps other departments Connects groups Teens learn Adults learn Free advertisements In-house or external Share with library and outside community Don’t wait for someone else to sponsor a video contest PSAs about teens • Teens share their voices with others • Other library user groups learn • Outside organizations and their members learn • Teens learn (self identity, public speaking, filmmaking skills, and more) • Don’t wait for someone else to sponsor a video contest VS.

Closing thoughts How else can we help our teens shine? • Send letters, ppts, documents (perhaps written by teens) to the decision makers in the community. • Participate in parades • Set up teens mentoring teens programs • Establish virtual meetings with other organizations • Write thank you notes (written by teens as well as staff)
