  3. Schooling • Graduated private school at age 18 • 15 month military school • 2 year medical, educational, and military gymnastics school • Many clubs • Age 23 graduated from Gymnastics Central Institute

  4. Journey to the U.S. • Looking for a job in Boston • Took about three years • During that time he got married to Rose Moore Smith

  5. Jobs • Got a job at Harvard in 1888 • They were looking for new physical education system • Swedish gymnastic system • After teaching a few classes Posse opened his own school • Boston Normal College of Gymnastics

  6. Swedish Gymnastic System • Purpose- regain vigor and national pride and renew spirit of Norse history with a scientific-therapeutic system of gymnastics • Swinging, climbing, vaulting, resistance exercises, passive therapeutic manipulation

  7. Cont. • After the college opened, they opened many hospitals and clinics specifically for medical gymnastics treatments • Wrote many pamphlets, books, and articles • Medical Gymnastics Pamphlet • Gymnastics Journal • Wrote up until he died
