  4. Mapping Out the Year So often, geography and history classes are presented to children in such a global manner that it is difficult for them to understand the major concepts; therefore, I would like for our journey in World Geography to begin right here in Simpson County and Kentucky – developing an appreciation for the world directly around us . . . branching out to master the rest of the U.S. and North America before traveling throughout the rest of the world. My hope, for each student this year, will be for them to become more analytical thinkers and global geographers.

  5. Concepts Covered Within Each Unit . . . • Geography • Government • Culture • Economy • Historical Perspective

  6. Textbook • World Geography (Holt, Rinehart, and Winston)

  7. Assessments • Bi-weekly map/vocabulary quizzes • Projects with each unit (completed predominantly in class) • Formative assessments throughout each unit • Summative assessment at the end of each unit

  8. Bell Ringer • CNN Student News (8-10 minutes) will be viewed at the beginning of each class period.

  9. Current Events • Each week, students will be challenged to expose themselves to news in the world around them. While doing this, they will be required to summarize the information on the graphic organizer provided for them at the beginning of each week. The original newsfeed must also be attached to their graphic organizer.
