  2. Dandruff is a skin condition that affects mainly the scalp. Dandruff, those dry, white flakes of skin you brush off your collar or shoulders is harmless. But it can be embarrassing and itchy. Dandruff really isn't about your hair, or how often you wash it. Instead, it's about the skin on your scalp. Skin cells that grow and die off too fast are the problem. Exactly why that happens isn't clear. A very common fungus called malassezia may contribute to dandruff. This fungus lives on the scalp of most healthy adults without causing any problems. One theory is that the immune system of someone with dandruff may overreact to that fungus. www.hairensure.com

  3. Symptoms of Dandruff The signs and symptoms of dandruff are an itchy scalp and flakiness. • Red and greasy patches of skin and a tingly feeling on the skin are also symptom. www.hairensure.com

  5. 1. Dry Skin Dandruff Dry skin related dandruff is the most common condition, that usually occurs in winter. It is caused due to taking head bath with hot water making the scalp go very dry and flaky. Individuals with dry, curly hair suffer from this type of dandruff very often. This condition should be treated with good moisturising shampoos and one should avoid colouring, dyes and perming. Regular oil massages also help in alleviating itchiness and stimulate blood circulation, nutrition to the scalp. www.hairensure.com

  6. 2. Oil Related Dandruff: Oil-related dandruff happens when there is an accumulation of sebum oil on the scalp. Secreted by the scalp glands, this oil can cause clumps all dead skin cells and dirt forming itchy flakes. Stress and anxiety levels cause high amounts of sebum oil secretion leading to the condition. www.hairensure.com

  7. 3. Fungal Dandruff Fungal Malassezia is a natural component found on skin and scalp. This fungus survives on excessive oil on the scalp and in turn, produces oleic acid as a byproduct that in turn produces skin cells to clump together causing white flakes. www.hairensure.com

  8. 4. Disease Related Dandruff: Few skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema stimulate excessive production of skin cells leading to the scaly skin on the scalp. When these skin cells get in contact with sebum oil and dirt, it causes dandruff. Another condition seborrheic dermatitis is more a serious condition as it causes severe redness, sores and itchy scalp. It is mostly shown on the back of the head and neck. Consult a doctor before it spreads to face and ears, for proper medication. www.hairensure.com

  9. Symptoms of Dandruff Oil from the scalp causes the skin cells to clump together and appear as white flakes. Dandruff can be caused by a number of things, including dry skin; sensitivity to hair products; and skin conditions such as psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, or eczema. The overgrowth of yeast can also cause dandruff. www.hairensure.com

  10. What Are Dandruff Treatments? Dandruff treatments are ways you can get rid of or control itching and flaking on your scalp. The first two to try are brushing your hair and using a dandruff shampoo. Brush your hair from your scalp down with steady, firm strokes. This carries the oil away from your scalp, where the buildup of it and skin cells can cause dandruff. Moving it along the hair strands helps keep your hair shiny and healthy. www.hairensure.com
