  2. Recall the “Golden Ticket” to the Engineering Profession

  3. Associate in Science DegreeENGINEERINGA Path To University TRANSFER Note: 36Fa/43Sp/45Fa

  4. ENGR 10 Global Wrap Up • Hopefully by Now Everyone in the Class Has a Good Idea About • What Engineers Do In Practice • The Skills, Techniques, and Motivation Needed to Successfully Complete The Engineering Academic Preparation • i.e., To Receive the Baccalaureate Degree • Also Hopefully Many In the Class have Chosen Engineering as a CAREER • It’s NOT a Job, it’s a Professional Career

  5. The Instructor’s Best Advice • For Everyone Who Has Decided on Engineering as: • A Course of College/University Study • A Working LifeTime Career... Take AS MANY COURSES AS POSSIBLE at the COMMUNITY COLLEGE

  6. Calculus, Calculus, Calculus • MTH1 (Calculus) is a Prerequisite for as many as TWELVE (12) other Science & Engineering Courses in the Engineering TRANSFER-PATH • Engineering Students Should Get to MTH1 Absolutely as SOON as Possible

  7. Engineering PrePreqGateWay • The Next slide slows the importance for Engineering Students to take Calculus as Quickly as possible • For some Engineering Disciplines PreReqs are Multiple and up to THREE Deep • At the root of this PreReq Chain is Calculus. • Calculus is the GATING ITEM for an Engineering Education

  8. ENGR10 (2) Intro to Engineering (Fall-Only) CHEM1A (5) College Chemistry I (Fall, Spring) MTH1 (5) Calculus I (Fall, Spring) ENGR22 (3) Engineering Graphics (Fall, Spring) ENGR11 (2) Engineering Design (Spring-Only) ENGR25 (3) Computer Methods (Fall, Spring) MTH2 (5) Calculus II (Fall, Spring) PHYS4A (5) General Physics I (Fall, Spring) ENGR45 (3) Engineering Matls (Fall-Only) ENGR36 (3) Engineer Mechanics (Fall-Only) MTH3 (5) MultiVar Calculus (Fall, Spring) PHYS4B (5) General Physics II (Fall, Spring) ENGR43 (4) Electrical Ckts & Devs (Spring-Only) PHYS4C (5) General Physics III (Fall, Spring) MTH6 (3) Linear Algebra (Fall, Spring) MTH4 (3) Differential Eqms (Fall, Spring)

  9. Transfer Prep – NEED to Have • Take ALL ADVANCED MATH Courses • Math: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 • Take ALL Sci/Engr PHYSICS Courses • Physics: 4A, 4B, 4C (and Possibly 5) • Chemistry: 1A (and Possibly 1B) • Computer Sci: 14 (and Possibly 15) • English: 1A & 4/7 • ENGL-7 is best for Engineers • Communications: 1 (Required by CSU)

  10. Transfer Prep – NEED to Have • Engineering • All Disciplines: 10, 11, 22, 25, 36, 43, 45 • ENGR22 May Be Omitted in Certain Cases for These Disciplines (chk w/ Xfer Univ) • EE • MSE • American Cultures • e.g; HIST7 or HIST8

  11. Transfer Prep – GOOD to Have • Organic Chemistry • Chem: 8 or 12A • More WRITING; e.g., ENGL 4, 7, 11 • Almost Every Engineer Can CALCULATE and DESIGN • Good Writing Skills will DISTINGUISH you From your Less Capable Colleagues • Public Speaking; e.g., COMM 3  Group Communication

  12. Transfer Prep – GOOD to Have • Manufacturing Processes: one of • MTT 50 – BluePrints Using SolidWorks • MTT 70 – Intro to Machine Shop • MTT 60A – Machine Tool Tech-I • WELD 70 – Intro to Welding • ESYS 51 – Electronic Systems Fabrication Techniques • ESYS 53 – E-Systems Measurements • Above are Usually Not UC Transferable

  13. Chabot ENGR Class Prep • ENGR22 – Engineering Design Graphics (AutoCAD Software) • Nice to Have • MATH 36 or 37 • ENGL 1A or 102 • ENGR25 – Computational Methods (MATLAB Software) • PreReq = MATH 1 • Nice to Have = CAS8 or CSCI8

  14. Chabot ENGR Class Prep cont • ENGR11 – Design and Analysis • Nice to Have • MATH 36 or 37 • ENGR 22 (REALLY Nice to Have) • ENGR36 – Engineering Mechanics → Static Structures • PreReqs • ENGR 25 • Physics 4A

  15. Chabot ENGR Class Prep cont • ENGR43 – Electrical Circuits & Devices • PreReqs • ENGR 25 • PHYS 4A • Good to HAVE (may be Concurrent) • MATH 4 • MATH 6 • PHYS 4B • Particularly Helpful

  16. Chabot ENGR Class Prep cont • ENGR45 – Materials of Engineering • PreReqs • CHEM 1A • PHYS 4A • ENGR25 • Good to HAVE (may be Concurrent) • CHEM 1B • MATH 2 • PHYS 4B

  17. I hope that Everyone will Take Engineering Courses Next Term G00D Chance You can Add if Needed
