  1. 6 Facts You Never Knew About Bedding We spend a large majority of time sleeping, in fact, given that an average a person sleeps for 8 hours in a day, according to research, that means that an average person will sleep for 229,961 hours in their lifetime or basically one third of their life. Seeing as we spend so much of our time in bed, it makes sense that we should know a bit about what they entail. However, many people know about mattresses and bed frames; how their quality impacts our sleep, but few people know much about bedding. The type of bedding, from wool quilts to Egyptian cottons sheets, cleaning methods, drying, a wool quilt sale and how to maintain good conditions, here are 6 things that you should know about bedding: 1. Thread count doesn’t really matter When it comes to buying sheets, we’ve all heard the age old classic of “the higher the thread count, the better the quality of the sheet”. This isn’t exactly the whole truth, and has largely been pushed as a marketing scheme. In fact, the thread count has very little impact on the quality of your sheets, but it is actually the length of the strands that makes all the difference. Look for long strand threads and your sheets will be of higher quality. 2. The permanent press isn’t good for you We get it, ironing sheets and duvet covers is a bit of a mission, and so it’s understandable that people go on to buy “wrinkle free” or “permanent press” bedding. Buying these easy care sheets and duvets is certainly a good way to ease up the ironing load, however it’s also treated with formaldehyde resin which is a toxin that never runs out. 3. Avoid ironing with slightly damp bedding Instead of buying wrinkle-free bedding, you should instead take your bedding out of the dryer a few minutes early, while it is still hot and a little bit damp. If you take them and put them directly onto your bed, you will in effect, get the same result as if you ironed your bedding.

  2. 4. There are 4 common bedding types with different characteristics Everyone has their idea of what they need to get a good night’s sleep, and this will have an impact on the type of bedding they buy. These are the 4 most popular and their characteristics: Percale: Cool linen perfect for hot weather or people that overheat in bed Sateen: Soft, smooth and shiny. It’s a little warmer than percale Jersey: Soft, stretchy and t-shirt-like material Flannel: Thick and warm, this is the best for cold weather. 5. You can wash duvets and pillows too Many people simply wash their bedding covers, and simply don’t know that you can wash the actual duvet and pillows too. Wash them at the beginning of every season, and as with your bedding, they should be put into a cool, delicate wash cycle. 6. Wool is excellent for allergens If you get allergic reactions to dust or bacteria that is harboured in your bedding, then best you look for the next wool quilt sale. Wool is naturally mould and mildew resistant, and that means that putting a wool quilt on your bed will make it less likely to soak up moisture from the air.
