Timescales & Reporting • Various reasons why researchers don’t have results yet • Still panelling Job descriptions • Waiting for job description acceptance form • Need a revised job description • Marie Curie, RCUK & GWR • Reporting of results • University will provide for all staff groups on completion

  4. Research profile “a” and “b” Profile “a” • Normally be studying towards their PhD • Completed their PhD in first post doc research role Profile “b” • Normally have 3 years post PhD research experience • The role will meet the requirements in profile “b”

Summary of profile “b” • Substantial added value to enhancing the study • Assessing need/scope for further research • Contributing to writing and presenting findings at conferences • Contributing to grant applications and bids for funding • Contribute to supervision/teaching of students • Awareness of university structures, policies and procedures • Developing entrepreneurial links with external organisations and patents • Developing research networks with other institutions

Increments and relativities • Assimilation rules have been negotiated with the unions • These apply to all staff groups • At implementation hierarchies affected • If relativities seem extreme discuss with line manager • Establish what kind of experience being compared • May decide to put in for an appeal or re-evaluation

New grade H & Overtime New Grade H • Didn’t match to profile “a” - full UBJES evaluation • Some instances the full evaluation resulted in a new grade H, where applicable. • Consistency with other University roles Overtime • Flexible working • University overtime procedures and prior authorisation

Appeals and Re-evaluations • Discuss with line manager • If submitted a JD, can request rationale • Decide appeal or re-evaluation • Only grade not incremental position • If feel role has change since submitting JDAF, can submit a JD reflecting responsibilities up to 1st Aug for re-evaluation • Appeals/Re-evaluation panels will be planned for Oct/Nov/Dec depending on panellist availability
