  1. Choosing the Right Paddle for Your kayak

  2. Selecting the right paddle is as important as selecting the right kayak for you. Your choice of paddle can make a big difference in your kayaking comfort and energy consumption on the water. Whether you are buying a kayak for the lake or for the whitewater, having a well-balanced kayak paddle is much needed to experience a good kayaking. This session of our blog covers the basics of kayak paddle size, shape and material. Read below to ease up your kayak paddle selection.

  3. Basically kayak paddles range from about 210 cm to 260 cm in length. The correct size of a kayak paddle depends on your paddling style, width of your kayak and your height. The taller the paddler, the longer the paddle is needed. Even the paddling style of the paddler is also an important factor to consider before choosing a kayak paddle. For low-angel paddling which is a relaxed style with a slower cadence, a kayak with slim blades and slightly longer length is perfect. But for high-angel paddling which is an aggressive style with faster cadence, a short length kayak paddle will be a most appropriate choice.

  4. Kayak blades are either feathered or non-feathered. Feathered blades are not on same plane. They are offset at an angle to each other, while non-feathered blades are positioned in line with each other. The main benefit of using feathered blades is that it reduces wrist fatigue and wind resistant. Modern kayak blades these days feature an asymmetrical dihedral shape. These shapes are relatively narrower than older symmetrical blades, which require less energy during kayaking. Most of the kayak paddles have simple straight shafts. But bent-shaped paddles have a “kinked” section for positioning paddler’s hands at a more comfortable angle during the power portion of a stroke, which minimizes maximum fatigue and discomfort. Custom Kayak Paddles for Great Comfort during Kayaking To enjoy a great kayaking, it’s better to use a custom made kayak paddle rather than using ordinary kayak paddles. Custom kayak paddlesare built exact to your needs and great for both comfort and durability. They are made out by experts who take great care for every angle of the paddle.
