UNIX • UNIX is a term which recalls the statement UNIPEXED INFORMATION and COMPUTING SYSTEM • UNIX is generally a non real time operating system • UNIX is popular because it is available for many different hardware platorms
DOS • DOS is an acronym for the statement DISK OPERATING SYSTEM • It can be fact in any operating system • DOS is an 16-bit operating system • It does not support Multitasking and Multipleusers • It is freely distributed so it is called OPEN for this reason
MSDOS • MSDOS is an acronym for MICROSOFT DISK OPERATINGSYSTEM • MSDOS was developed for the IBM compatible personal computers
MICROSOFT WINDOWS • Microsoft Windows recalls a family of operating systems for personal computers • According to some estimates the 80 percent of the all personal computers is run by Windows • Windows provides a GUI (GRAPHICALUSERINTERFACE) • It does not supportmultiple users(except WindowsNT and Windows2000)
Windows95 • This version of Microsoft Windows was released in 1995 • The most important advance from first version of Windows is its 32 bit structure which makes the operating system faster • It has removed DOS as the underlying platform although it can run older applications which can run on the older versions of the Microsoft Windows
Windows98 • This version is released in 1998 • It was planned to be released in 1997 but the project could not be conducted to be completed in that year • Although there are new capabilities the basic structure is almost same with windows95
WindowsNT • Windows NT stands for the statement Windows New Technology • It is the most advanced operating system of Microsoft • Two types of NT system ara available • Server • Serveris needed when a network structure will be created • Workstation • Workstation works as single entitiy
Windows2000 • Windows2000 has been developed instead of the newest version of Windows NT • It seems to have a lot of bugs although its capabilities have been increased
LINUX • Linux was born in 1991 but after 10 years passing with an incredible improvement it became most powerful operating system of the personal computers area • It has the availablity of multiple user at the top most level, the capability of multithreading, multitasking with the best optimization
