  1. First Cause, The Trinity and a Eucharistic People

First Cause ~ God Since the way God is (his nature) is critical to what morality is all about, we should try to understand the way God is as much as we can, so that we can be better Christians. • However the Universe started, God is the one who created it. It doesn’t matter whether God made the Earth in 7 days or started Creation off with the Big Bang. He’s the one who did it. • Since God tells us that we are made in his image, understanding the way God is and why he made us is essential in trying to live a healthy and moral Christian life, since we freely chose it.

  3. The Trinity ~ Community of Love Jesus reveals to us through his teachings that God is a Trinity: • 1. Father • 2. Son • 3. Holy Spirit Understanding the Trinity is a very difficult concept for any Catholic! Lets look at some different examples of how we can come to understand the trinity…

  4. St. Patrick’s Shamrock Used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity: • Each leaf represented one of 3 persons, yet, they are all 1 shamrock

Holy Trinity The Holy Trinity ~ Water Analogy • Ice – solid form of water that reminds us of God the Father.Ice is hard and solid, in this way God the Father is our solid foundation. • Liquid – reminds us of Jesus the Son. We use water to wash ourselves and so, this state of water reminds us of Jesus, who died to cleanse us of our sins. • Gas – reminds us of the Holy Spirit. Gas cannot be seen but you can see the effects of it. Just like the Holy Spirit which we cannot see, the works of the Holy Spirit can be seen and felt in our lives.

Trinity = Love • The easiest way to understand the trinity is to look at the Trinity as a community of love. • With this in mind it helps us Christians to understand more about our calling and about how we should live on a daily basis; • Helps us to appreciate our identity and to recognize what makes us different andspecialas Christians in a non-Christian world. • Let’s look at the Trinity more closely to examine God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit to learn more about love and life…

God = Love + Life • Understanding the Trinity is complex BUT if we can understand the Trinity as a love relationship it may be a bit clearer for us to understand! • God the Father created Jesus for his immense love for all humanity through the holy spirit. • God the Father’s love for Jesus is so great that he made Creation and gave it to Jesus (who is called the lord of creation in the Bible). • This overflowing love, that comes from God the Father, made all of us. • God loves us so much so, that our love comes alive through our love for one another.

  9. Called to be Eucharistic People When we receive Holy Communion we invite Jesus into our lives. • St. Augustine heard Jesus say: “I am the food of grown men. Grow and you shall feed upon me. Nor shall you change me, like the food of your flesh, into yourself. But you shall be changed into me.” • St. Paul once said: “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” • As we receive Jesus through the Eucharist, Jesus lives in us so we can go forward and love one another.

Called to be Eucharistic People • What makes us special is the Trinity in us: we are called to witness the true nature of God, the love of the Trinity, to the world.God continues to tell the world what He is like through us, and He continues to tell about Himself though us despite our reluctance and our frequent dismal failures. • Christians are frequently reluctant to allow the Trinity to show through themselves because it requires such openness and risk. Peter the Apostle even fought against God’s will frequently, but he always came around. Our identity is just this: • If we accept that God is the pattern after whom we are all made and that our human happiness is related to how true we are to the way we were made and the way we were meant to live. • If we have a false image of who we are and how we should live, we will run into problems and be unhappy. • Our special job as baptized Christians, then, as Matthew says in his Gospel, is to show the love of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to the world. This is our job. We are sacraments of the Trinity to the world.

  11. Catholics are Sacraments to the world in the following ways: • In family: love comes alive in children • To show the world how God loves through our words and actions. In a world full of selfishness and ignorance we must work to show the following: • We are all brothers and sisters in Christ, we are one global family. • We must never harm each other; physically, mentally, emotionally or financially.

Skit: We are Eucharistic People • In groups of 4 create a short 1 minute skit based on a real life situation. • When presenting your skit you must present 2 contrasting reactions to your scenario: 1. Ending #1: acting out how God would not want us to act 2. Ending #2: Demonstrate how God would want us to act.
