  16. Theater Terms • Fade: sound and lighting term: to increase (fade up), decrease (fade down) or eliminate (fade out) gradually the brightness of a lantern or the volume of a sound.

  18. Voice Over: (VO) • Indicates that dialogue will be heard on a movie's soundtrack, but the speaker will not be shown.

  19. Close up: (CU) • A shot in which the subject is larger than the frame, revealing much detail.

  20. Dissolve: • An editing technique whereby the images of one shot is gradually replaced by the images of another.

  21. Reaction Shot • a shot that cuts away from the main scene or speaker in order to show a character's reaction to it.

  22. Camera Swing • When camera travels from one view to another without shutting off.

  23. Framing • the use of edges of the film to select and to compose what will be visible onscreen. • Medium shot (MS) • Long shot (LS)

  24. Cut to in the finished film, an instantaneous change from one framing to another.
