  1. “Meet me in St. Louis Santiago!” • Liza will be coming into Dallas on • American Airlines • Flight 1488 • Leaving San Jose, CA at 12:04 • Arriving Dallas at 5:38 • Meet at departing gate for flight 945 to Santiago

  2. “Phone Home ….” • Check out www.skype.com • Free international telephone calls via the internet; need microphone • International phone card • Cingular wireless will work from Antofagasta - must sign up for international roaming • IP phone, Sat phone at station for emergency purposes

  3. “To bring, or not to bring…” • Laptops (it’s dusty out there!) • Your primary writing task will be doing your journal - if you’re more comfortable on your computer then bring it - if you just want to write in a notebook, bring that • Plan on doing field notes in a small notebook • Email connectivity: • Worst case: you will be able to use one of the station computers to read/send email • Best case: you will be able to connect your own computer to the network • As of this point, we don’t know if the best case will be possible

  4. Journaling • VERY, VERY IMPORTANT !!!!!! • Plan on doing a lot of it • Hopefully you’ve been writing already • Pre-trip • Expectations, what you look forward to, what you’re worried about, what do you think you’re going to get out of the trip • During trip - journal components • Science field notes • Exploration field notes • Classroom leveraging notes • Personal learning and experiences

  5. Electricity • Station has U.S. power (100 v 60Hz) • Station uses both U.S. and Chile plugs (2 round prongs) • Anyplace else will use Chile plugs • Plug adapter kit available at Radio Shack • Most computers, hair dryers have power conversion

  6. “Forget-Me-Nots” • Do you have your international driver’s license yet? • Hat, sunscreen, water bottle, backpack • Comfortable shoes • Something to show from your home town • A small gift for your Chilean partner teacher(s)
