WHO WILL THEY DESTROY? BABYLON? READ: JEREMIAH 51:11 11 Make the arrows bright! Gather the shields! The LORD has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes. For His plan is against Babylon to destroy it, Because it is the vengeance of the LORD, The vengeance for His temple. MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it; 27 TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting; 28 PERES: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.“ 29 Belshazzar gave the command, and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. 30 That very night Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain. 31 And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old. Their arrows shall be like those of an expert warrior; None shall return in vain. WHAT IS THIS DAY OF THE LORD? HOW LONG HAS THE LORD BEEN WARNING THEM? 175 YEARS? WHY DID THE LORD WAIT SO LONG? HOW DID THE PEOPLE RESPOND TO THIS? WHY DO THEIR HANDS BECOME LIMP AND THEIR HEARTS MELT?

  26. QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 13:6-8 6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty. WHY WILL THE PEOPLE WAIL? WHAT IS THIS DAY OF THE LORD? HOW LONG HAS THE LORD BEEN WARNING THEM? 175 YEARS? READ: JEREMIAH 46:10 10 For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, A day of vengeance, That He may avenge Himself on His adversaries. The sword shall devour; It shall be satiated and made drunk with their blood; For the Lord GOD of hosts has a sacrifice In the north country by the River Euphrates. The noise of the day of the LORD is bitter; There the mighty men shall cry out. 15 That day is a day of wrath, A day of trouble and distress, A day of devastation and desolation, A day of darkness and gloominess, A day of clouds and thick darkness, NKJV

READ: ZEPHANIAH 2:2-3 2 Before the decree is issued, Or the day passes like chaff, Before the LORD‘S fierce anger comes upon you, Before the day of the LORD 's anger comes upon you! 3 Seek the LORD, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the LORD 's anger. NKJV

Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; They will be amazed at one another; Their faces will be like flames. HOW DID THE PEOPLE RESPOND TO THIS? WHY DO THEIR HANDS BECOME LIMP AND THEIR HEARTS MELT? WHAT DID THE OFFICERS TELL THE MEN? READ: DEUTERONOMY 20:8 8 The officers shall speak further to the people, and say, “What man is there who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest the heart of his brethren faint like his heart.”

  31. QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 13:6-8 7 Therefore all hands will be limp, Every man's heart will melt, WHY DO THEIR HANDS BECOME LIMP AND THEIR HEARTS MELT? WHAT DID RAHAB TELL THE SPIES? READ: JOSHUA 2:11 11 As soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. NKJV WHAT HAPPENED TO THE KING OF BABYLON? READ: JEREMIAH 50:43 43 "The king of Babylon has heard the report about them, And his hands grow feeble; Anguish has taken hold of him, Pangs as of a woman in childbirth.” NKJV

READ: EZEKIEL 21:1-7 1 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 "Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem, preach against the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel; 3 Say to the land of Israel, 'Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I am against you, and I will draw My sword out of its sheath and cut off both righteous and wicked from you. 4 Because I will cut off both righteous and wicked from you, therefore My sword shall go out of its sheath against all flesh from south to north, 5 That all flesh may know that I, the LORD, have drawn My sword out of its sheath; it shall not return anymore."‘ 6 Sigh therefore, son of man, with a breaking heart, and sigh with bitterness before their eyes. 7 It shall be when they say to you, 'Why are you sighing?' that you shall answer, 'Because of the news; when it comes, every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it is coming and shall be brought to pass,' says the Lord GOD." NKJV

  33. QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 13:6-8 8 And they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; They will be amazed at one another; Their faces will be like flames. HOW DID THE PEOPLE RESPOND TO THIS? WHY DO WOMEN SUFFER THE PAIN OF CHILD BIRTH? READ: GENESIS 3:16 16 To the woman He said: "I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you." WHY DOES THE LORD MANIFEST HIS WRATH AND ANGER? WHO IS THE LORD SEEKING TO DESTROY? WHY WILL THETR BE COMPLETE DARKNESS?

  36. QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 13:9-10 9 Behold, the day of the LORD comes, Cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, To lay the land desolate; And He will destroy its sinners from it. WHO IS THE LORD SEEKING TO DESTROY? READ: JEREMIAH 51:1-2 1 Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, Against those who dwell in Leb Kamai, A destroying wind. 2 I will send winnowers to Babylon, Who shall winnow her and empty her land. For in the day of doomThey shall be against her all around.” NKJV

WHY WILL THERE BE COMPLETE DARKNESS? WHAT HAPPENED IN EGYPT? READ: EXODUS 10:22-23 22 Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days. 23 They did not see one another; nor did anyone rise from his place for three days. But all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings. NKJV WHO COMMANDS THE SUN AND THE STARS? READ: JOB 9:7 7 He commands the sun, and it does not rise; He seals off the stars; NKJV

WHO COMMANDS THE SUN AND THE STARS? READ: EZEKIEL 32:7-8 7 “When I put out your light, I will cover the heavens, and make its stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, And the moon shall not give her light. 8 All the bright lights of the heavens I will make dark over you, And bring darkness upon your land,” Says the Lord GOD. NKJV WHEN WILL THIS COME TO PASS?

QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 13:9-10 10 For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not give their light; The sun will be darkened in its going forth, And the moon will not cause its light to shine. WHO COMMANDS THE SUN AND THE STARS? READ: JOEL 3:15-16 15 The sun and moon will grow dark, And the stars will diminish their brightness. 16 The LORD also will roar from Zion, And utter His voice from Jerusalem; The heavens and earth will shake; But the LORD will be a shelter for His people, And the strength of the children of Israel.
