  3. How does it glow?? • Bioluminescence occurs when certain chemicals are mixed together • When these two chemicals mix together, they give a soft green light. • The angler fish can also see where many other species cannot meaning this gives them an advantage by allowing them to see their food without being eating by another species.

  4. How do they glow? • The angler fish produce light with an organ called photophores • to make the angler fish glow, the angler fish must have two types of chemicals. • The first one is Luciferin, this chemical is the one that creates the glow. The other chemical is called luciferase and this actually “catalyzes” the chemical reaction • When the chemicals intertwine when there is oxygen, the light is produced.

  5. chemical equation: luciferase

  6. How do they adapt? • Some adaptations that the angler fish have are there shiny antenna mostly known as their bioluminescent. • Angler fishes have adapted to attack in .09 seconds or less which means they could practically eat almost any creatures they find in their path.

  7. How do they adapt? Pt.2 • Angler fish are also classified as a sexual dimorphism which means that there is a large difference in size between the male and the female. In this fish the male angler fish are only a fraction of the female’s size. • Males are born with full digestive system; as time passes by, the male’s digestive system crumbles which means they would have to find a female to attach to forever. If they do not attach to a female then, they WILL die.
