  3. John 17:3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

  4. 1 We love God from the heart as a grateful response to His overwhelming kindness. This love motivates and energizes all our actions.

  5. Psalm 27:4 One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. 17/08/10

  6. 2 There are may distractions that can cause this desire to diminish.

  7. 2 Corinthians 11:3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be ed astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 17/08/10

  8. 3 The purpose of the spiritual disciplines is to know God.

  9. 4 The spiritual disciplines are attitudes and practices designed to strengthen our relationship with God.

  10. 1 Timothy 4:7 Paul told Timothy to “Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness.” 17/08/10

  11. 5 They can be learned and cultivated with time and energy.

  12. Luke 11:1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” 17/08/10

  13. 6 They begin as a decision, and they continue as a lifetime habit.

  14. John 8:31 Then Jesus said to those Jews which believed in Him, “If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed.” 17/08/10

  15. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you… For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love, and of self-discipline. 17/08/10

  17. 8 We must be vigilant not to convert disciplines into law but to allow them to be life and freedom. 17/08/10
