  3. Example • 1) Determine if a relationship between ideas and sentences must be highlighted by the reader Johnny did not have his textbook. Johnny lost participation points.

  4. Example • 1) Use a conjunctive adverb that clearly reflects the intended relationship (cause and effect, compare, contrast, sequence, ect.) Johnny did not have his textbook; therefore, he lost participation points. Similar transitional words and phrases (first, moreover, as a result….) may appear at the beginning of a sentence (followed by a comma) to display similar relationships as noted above. In addition, he was unable to use the book while writing his essay.
