  2. To know or… to know? • Both kennen and wissen both mean to know • Kennen means to know a person, a place or a thing, as in, to be familiar with Kennen is a regular verb z.B. Ichkenne die Stadt Berlin. Ichkenne Frau Schleichert. Ichkennedich. • Wissen has some irregular forms, and means to know something as a fact z.B. Ichweiß , wiespätesist. I know the city Berlin. (I’m familiar with it.) I know Frau S. I know you. I know how late it is.

  3. Verb forms: Notice…the ich form has no “e” ending, and there are some stem changes in the singular forms! ichkenne du kennst er siekennt es kennen wissen wirkennen ihrkennt sie Siekennen ichweiß du weißt er sieweiß es wirwissen ihrwisst sie Siewissen

  4. Let’s look at more examples… Kennst du Sabine? Weißt du, wer Sabine ist? Wirkennen Hamburg. Wirwissen, wo Hamburg ist. KennenSie dieses Buch? WissenSie, wo dieses Buchist? Do you know Sabine? Do you know who Sabine is? We know Hamburg. We know where Hamburg is. Do you know this book? Are you familiar with it? Do you know where this book is?
