  3. Religion •             Beware, those who are thrust into danger, 100      Clutched at by trouble, yet can carry no solace           In their hearts, cannot hope to be better! Hail            To those who will rise to God, drop off             Their dead bodies, and seek our Father’s peace! 

  4. Religion • Cite an example of religious beliefs from the passage. • What religion does this text seem to favor? • How can you tell?

  6. Repetition • Cite an example of repetition from the epic poem. How does the repetition affect the text?

  7. Illustrate • Illustrate one event from the text.

  8. Scop • How does the scop describe the king and knights? Give one example from the text. Why does the scop try to flatter the king?

  10. Values • What values do knights live by? How do these values transfer to the society Beowulf is living in? Do we live by these values today?

BYOD • Use your device to research the historical background for Beowulf • Search key words such as Geats, Danes, 5th century Scotland/Denmark, religious beliefs of 5th century Denmark/Scotland • Copy or type at least 20 notes that you can use for your research paper. Cite your sources for your Works Cited page.
