  6. Eligibility • Current 7th graders • 95th percentile or higher in at least one subtest area on a qualifying test • Check the website for acceptable tests and scores: www.tip.duke.edu/7enroll

Above-Level Testing: SAT vs. ACT • ACT • Measures academic achievement • 4 sections: Math, English, Reading, Science (Writing optional) • Composite score (36 max score) • SAT • Measures critical thinking, analysis, problem-solving • 3 sections: Math, Critical Reading, Writing (mandatory) • Scaled scores (800 max each section, 2400 score total) www.tip.duke.edu/7tests

Distance Learning: eSeminars • Open to allparticipantsin grades 8 -12 • Seminar model with focus ondiscussion, collaboration, and exploration of ideas • Includes live video conferencing with TIP instructor • Seminars include Philosophy of Privacy, Cryptology, and Psychology’s Take on Reality TV • Five-week program offered in fall and spring

Distance Learning: eStudies • Open to qualifyingstudents in grades 8 - 11 • Challenging academic coursework delivered in a teacher-moderated, internet-based classroom • Highly interactive: students connect with peers and instructor through live chats, discussion boards, blogs, and email • Courses include: Academic Writing, Genetics, Neuroscience, and Nanotechnology • Seven-week program offered in the summer

  23. Field Studies • Two-week program for grades 9 - 12 • Domestic and international programs • Academic experience in unique settings, such as: • Creative Writing – Ghost Ranch, New Mexico • Law, Leadership, or Genetics – Duke University or New College of Florida • Tropical Medicine – Costa Rica

  25. Independent Learning • Self-paced, engaging studies anytime, anywhere for grades 4 - 12 • No qualifying criteria • Various formats: CD-ROM, workbook, and/or online • Students work with a local mentor • Participants and schools receive a discount!
