HIV Prevention Project in Conflict Zone: South Sudan 2002-2003

This project aimed to reduce HIV transmission in a conflict setting by promoting safer sex practices, improved STI care seeking, and VCT usage among youth, military, and women. Conducted rapid assessments, seroprevalence surveys, and BCC formative assessments. Identified target groups and behavior change objectives. Strategy workshop established theme "New weapons for a new enemy" and utilized channels like peer education, community events, small media, and community sensitization workshops. Lessons learned emphasized incentivizing peer educators, providing thorough training, involving community leaders, developing materials in local languages, and ensuring condom supply before creating demand.
